What is your current job? Copywriter at a sustainable fashion NGO

What does your current job involve day to day?

  • Writing of comms materials such as social media posts, newsletters, PR materials, long-form pieces for the website

  • Editing of technical materials such as standards, reports, guides

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Using language in a creative way for writing, but then also getting to be nerdy about grammar too when it comes to editing technical materials.

What advice would you give to someone interested in this job?

There are lots of ways into copywriting. I didn’t have a particular marketing or strategic comms background but my interest in language - English language in this case - stood me in good stead.

How has your languages degree been useful during your career so far?

My modern languages degree and translation Masters definitely set me on track to be a good copywriter. They helped me understand the nuances of language, and how to mould words in a certain way depending on intended audience, context, and messaging.

Thanks very much to Zoë for sharing her journey!
