About
When it launches, What Next with Languages? will be a platform designed to help modern languages students and graduates who chose to study languages out of passion and then found themselves asking: what next?
This is a question the platform’s creator, Mary, continues to explore six years after completing her degree in French, Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Exeter. Since graduating, she has enjoyed a varied career, spending two years on the Civil Service Fast Stream, completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and teaching French and Spanish for three years in a London secondary school. Having recently stepped back from full-time teaching, she is once again considering the exciting question: what next? While many people say a languages degree opens countless doors, she is curious about what those doors actually look like and suspects she isn’t the only one.
What Next with Languages? has been born from the idea that hearing directly from modern languages graduates could be a powerful way to inform, inspire and reassure others who are asking themselves this question. The catalogue of graduate profiles will offer honest insights into different roles, highlight the transferable skills that language learning develops and show the wide variety of paths that are possible.
